The name points to the metadata location. It is possible for the name of a deleted file to be erased or reused, but the file metadata still exists. We call these Orphan Files because they have no parent or at least the root directory is not its ultimate parent. Is it true? Yes, a block which has no children is commonly referred to as orphaned. But that is not the definition of orphaned that you are using.

The orphan project is really something that you came up with — for a certain purpose. I say, forget the end result — like giving it as a gift to so and so like you planned too.
