How to create poi file for garmin

If I click 'Satellite' on the map I get an aerial photo view which lets me zoom down to 50ft. I can now see the pub and that marker was a little out, not enough to make much difference when driving by, but I'll move it to right on the pub doors anyway. Clicking the 'Save Point' button, removes the 'add point' box and displays my entry in a list. There's only one so far so lets add some more. I'll now use the same method to add another place.

I now have two points in my list and selecting either one will move the map to its location and allows me to drag the marker to further refine the position or change it completely. Clicking the '-' button lets me delete a point from the list if I'm not happy with it. A few minutes later and I've created a little list of local spots. It's now just a question of copying the OV2 file to my TomTom.

If you can't read the word, click here. Log In Register. POI Edit! July 2, How To. I figured this out. After re-reading, I noticed that cannot be used in CSVed. BTW, I seemed to be getting an error with an apostrophe in one of the name fields. Took a look at the file you sent me in both Notepad and EditPad. In EditPad, the individual entries show up on separate lines, but in Notepad, they run continuously.

I suspect the file has only carriage-returns at the end of each line, but some editors and programs like POILoader, maybe? I managed to see using poiloader. I use another computer and read the help. The default for some Garmin units is for custom POI to only appear at the ft 30m zoom level. For example, if you set this to 5 km, the custom POI will first appear at the 5 km zoom level, and also appear as you zoom in closer.

All other Garmin Nuvi units use MP3 sound files. Garmin does not have pre-installed a sound conversion program called SOX. Save SOX. EXE Step 4 to the folder. It contains all files to be loaded into your Garmin. These file names must be identical with the exception of the file extension step 3. If you use a SD card reader, connect it to your PC. Start POILoader. Make sure the appropriate device appears in the Device field. If not, click Find Device. If you have multiple devices connected to your PC, select the device you want from the drop-down list.
