Screensaver not working windows vista

Under winxp it is not hard to fix. It is not some service like ehtray. I had same problem but with XP Pro. Turned out to be the "Human Interface Device" i. Hope this helps. I can't believe this problem is still persisting. On top of the Vista screensaver problem with Microsoft's own wireless products, their wired desktops also cause compatibility issues with Vista.

I just bought a Microsoft Digital Media Pro keyboard so my screensaver would work, which it did , but now have to return it because it is causing my music mp3s to stutter during playback don't ask me how or why. Again, this was a product listed as "Vista Certified". So I am stuck with the sleep option. Ok so let me tell you I was so happy to know I wasn't the only one with this problem. Thanks for the help and I hope this might help some of you!

And, further, the Microsoft Wireless Desktop v2. Windows vista cannot sleep properly and never wake up again.. I just thought I'd chime in, since the info in this thread helped confirm this screen saver issue I've been having with Vista RTM.

Actually, the major issue for me is that using the Sleep mode is very unreliable half the time it won't sleep, and half of the remaining times, it won't wake up. It's like having an annoying college roommate.

Anyway, my issue is with an MS wireless keyboard unplugging the mouse doesn't help. It sounds like I probably shouldn't hold my breath for a solution to this problem. That resolves the screen saver issue. But, not all signals are getting through, and only half of the special keys on my keyboard work in this configuration.

And, I can't install IntelliPoint because the scroll rate for the mousewheel on my keyboard and trackball seem to be linked and there's no happy "middle ground" setting. Oh, well Anyway, thanks to all who posted suggestions in this thread.

In addition to the screen saver and sleep mode not working, Messenger will not show you as "away" after the inactivity period. I thought this was supposed to be fixed in Intellitype and Intellipoint 6. I'm so happy it worked that I'm compelled to come back to this site and write about it. However as AustinTechie mentioned, the mouse and keyboard functionalities are limited after that. Just change the drivers for both the keyboard and mouse to kbdclass. Reboot and enjoy! Liz, I'm a little unclear Liz - I'm glad to hear that this "solution" OK, "workaround" helped.

I have the same question as Craig, though: Were you able to get all of the extra keys on your keyboard to work by changing the driver?

Or, did you just decide to forgo the extra features and stick with the standard keyboard driver. Thanks for any info. In device manager, all of my keyboard-related drivers do show that they're using "kbdclass.

I have IntelliType 6. This is a problem that Microsoft should fix. So here's an anomaly for you. If I disable the wireless adapter there is a switch on the front on the keyboard that allows you to turn it off , the screen saver doesn't work. When I enable it, the screen saver kicks in just fine. I can't find any explanation for this either. I guess I could contact HP which I will do eventually.

I have been plagued with this problem and finally came across these messages. I diabled the ehtray. Well until the reboot. Seventhds, I did as you suggested; so far, everything seems fine. So, what exactly does ehtray do?

Screensaver in vista works now with wireless optical desktop receiver 2. Found the thing in a old box. I gotta get some more of these, seems the only solution. I also found another solution to this problem. Not so mucha asolution, but a workaround. Basicly this little program lets you run your vista screensaver as wallpaper. I was able to do this with XP, which is what made me think to search for how to do it.

No you have a screensave at all times running as wallpaper. IT will block the desktop, as screensavers do. But all the Aero functions will work over top of it and be viasalbe, as well as the smartbar or whatever the gadget row crap is called and the taskbar uless you autohide this To cancel screensaver as wallpaper, just open taskmanaer and delete the screensaver's process.

Theres options in the program to set this up as run when windows starts, when current user logs in, or as a tray app that you can turn on when you want. Im not gonna list a link for it since I dont want to come off as a spammer, but search for it and try it.

Hope this info helps. Also if you are using Vista Ultimate, you can also use DreamScene to use videos as wallpaper. There was word that it was to be out with hold 'em and bit locker, but it didnt show up on the updates.

However you can find the beta version on bit torrent or just google it. Take a look at this MS article They had suggested disabling the ehtray. But alas, this has not remedied my problem. Unfortunately since the receiver only plugs into one usb for the mouse and keyboard, I cannot just put on a ps2 adapter.

It would be nice if a Microsoft hardware product was compatible with a Microsoft OS. There is no fix on winupdate for this for Vista is there?

I still have the above problem and checked winupdate this morning or is it posted somewhere else. Um well there was for me so I assume there is for everyone. Start Control Panel Check for updates under security. If nothing shows up click on check for updates on the left to refresh list. Cured my screen saver issue. Good Luck! Ryan, I'm not seeing an update listed in winupdate. What is the winupdate called? I just got it I just spent and hour chatting with MS supoort and found out this is getting pushed.

Right said Fred! It is working now wooo hooo. Now if I could get a more stable SB Xfi Driver and figure out what causes the system to freeze intermittantly :. Unless there is another way! I got it yesterday and it worked for me.. The screensaver now works.

It is a shame that microsoft allows for a conflict between Vista and their own keyboard!!!! I need a link for this update. It's not on the Microsoft site and it doesn't show up on Windows Update for me.

This should come in Via "Vista Windows Update". Plugged it in, ran the 'check for updates' viola, there was the HID update, installed, screen saver works as it should. I've been having with Vista is my screensaver not working since build , it just would not kick in, I Checked everything, made sure there was nothing.

I have also disabled ehtray. Anyone else have a problem with the sleep function when wireless is connected to the usb port? Still no Update here on Vista update. Tried the re-connecting trick, too. Maybe because I use the german version?

Nobody with a download link??? Go onto the vista windows update and you want the optional updates section. It will be there. Here's some more information. They work without the drivers, and screen saver works. However, when I installed the Vista Logitech Setpoint driver version 3. I unistalled the drivers and the screen saver and power options work again. So it's not just MSFT mice! Ugh, I lose the ability to map the buttons. I also have the Logitech MX laser mouse and installed the latest vista driver in to my retail ultimate edition.

My screen saver will not come on unless I change a setting for the screensaver and apply it. It will then come on by itself but this is no solution, Logitech and MS both need to fix this or unfortunately this will result in class action lawsuit as it will destroy monitors with burn in. I did check the optional updates yesturday but it was not there. However today it is for me. It appears to show up randomly since a few people here were able to get this update a couple days back and I was not. If you don't see it yet, then check tomorrow.

It could only become available to certain registered users at a time to limit the number of hits there servers will take. BTW, my screen saver does work now! I use the Wireless Optical Desktop , but the update is for any of the variations. In Vista do the following: 1.

Start button 2. Control Panel 3. Click "System and Maintenance" 4. Under the heading "Windows Update" click "check for updates" 5. Once this update is available for your machine you will see "Optional Updates" option.

Grab a cold one and think of the old days when you had no screen saver and how good life has become. Still no update for me available. I'm using Vista Ultimate in german. Anybody with a link for the update??? Is there a KB number associated with this update number and a place where you can download updates by finding the KB number? Frig this is frustrating. I can't find this update anywhere even a Google search only brings back a result for this exact thread!

I have a Logitech MX and have the same problem. Screensaver won't come on. PC refuses to go into sleep mode. The update doesn't show up on Windows Update for me either. I may have fixed the issue on my side with Vista, I have had the same problem with the screen saver not working, I have my mouse plugged into the USB port , I put back the green adapter that comes with the Wireless mouse and Keyboard - and put it into the PS2 port - did a reboot and now it is working.

Thanks for this post. I was able to get my screensaver working again by installing the update. Like a few others, it seems that the update did resolve my screen saver issue. Unfortunately, I've been having problems related to applications freezing and some keyboard buttons ceasing to work every once in a while.

And, sleep mode doesn't seem to work correctly - the system goes to sleep, but resuming took over a minute. After that, Explorer crashed multiple times, and I couldn't get any of my web browsers to work. I just hope I don't have to wait another four months for a fix for this issue I'm another Logitech user whose screensaver isn't working in Vista. I even did a clean install to see if that would help. I too cannot see the "HID" update.

Come on MS I've been waiting 3 months for a solution to this. And still no update for me!!! Can anyone provide info why the update is not available for all? Using Vista Ultimate german and MS wireless desktop No screensaver activation! Can someone list a link for the much needed update? Can anyone tell me how to get rid of this update again? I have never had any trouble with the screensavers not on XP not on Vista using the Wireless Laser Keyboard v2, but then this update reached me with the latest Windows Update and suddenly ALL my special keys are dead.

I have found some things I can do to temporarily solve this problem - but it's back after starting up again. MS Update fixed the screen saver problem last night but PC will still not sleep per power options, only when I manualy put it to sleep. No Problems waking up.

Using MS Laser Desktop v2. Maybe less is better with keyboards! Any suggestions would be appreciated. It's unfortunate that most people still seem to have this problem. I've been on this thread from the beginning. Glad to see it's going somewhere. Question: Before I go out and re-purchase the wireless desktop - it sounds like the update fixes the screensaver.

However, will the monitor not the computer go into power-save green light turns yellow mode as well? That also wasn't working before.

Thanks, now my hair can start growing back! In reply to DaGreenOne's post on June 6, I do not consider it fixed, however I personally think its a conflict somewhere with windows vista and the stuff I have put on my pc, as mentioned above.

The disc that I got from Microsoft does contain all versions of vista as mentioned above, but it looks to me that it will only install the relevant version dependant on what activation code you put it. Unfortunately I do not have one for ultimate, so I cannot do as you suggest. The disc does not give you the choice of which version to install. I think that I will just have to put up with this problem. Its the only one I have ever experienced with Microsoft windows any version.

So to end this I consider it closed, but the original problem still persists. Many thanks for your help How satisfied are you with this reply? Thanks for your feedback, it helps us improve the site. Ken -. In reply to creakin's post on May 23, Hi creakin I have two more suggestions, if neither does not resolve the issue, you may be forced to totally reinstall Vista.

And at what point does it "crash" -- during boot, after getting to the desktop, what? Have you checked temps while in the BIOS? Have you done a full memtest86 run ie, overnight? I put the new MB and Video card in and it booted to Windows vista for about 2 minutes and then crashed, this happened several time. I don't know what else to do. Then it wouldn't boot. Sent MB and Video card back and rec'd new ones on Monday, installed and this happened.

I would appreciate any guideance. I'd suspect the memory, one way or another. Have you tried booting with just one stick? Will give it a try and let you know. Thanks for your feedback. I just purchased a new Acer Windows Vista desktop system and my screensaver won't work. When I go to preview it will work, but when it's set it doesn't. I'ver read up and lot of the sites are saying in reverence to a wirless mouse or keyboard.

I don't have a wireless mouse. My system setting are the following.
