When booting using the Wireless desktop:. Can boot from win95,Win98,WinXP floppies. Can boot from Ununtu Live CD. Cannot boot from Win7 floppy. Cannot boot from Win7 CD. All this indicates to me that it is the new booting procedure introduced with Vista that is the cause of the problem. Spent several hours with Microsoft on the problem. They feel it's neither a Microsoft hardware or software problem.
They've said to go back to Asus the motherboard manufacturer. I have done of course but I responded to Microsoft as follows:. When using the Windows wireless desktop and booting from a Windows 7 floppy the stall occurs immediately and before Bootmanager can have been loaded as it is a large file and takes a considerable time to load from floppy.
There's no problem loading previous Oses from floppy with Wireless desktop. They have a different PBR. Within Windows 7, using its own drivers, there is no problem with the Wireless desktop.
I feel that If Microsoft could collaborate with Asus and Award we might possibly get closer to a solution. You can check the bios version in the BIOS or on the start up screen.
Depending on the ASUS mobo, you may have to disable a splash screen to see it or hit tab, but you should be able to see it. Once you find out, get the latest version and update your BIOS. You MAY need an external Floppy, but most manufacturers now have an autoupdate program that will do it for you.
To ensure the performance of the system, I suggest you use Windows XP. I feel it's a rather a lazy reply and there's more indicating that they haven't really read the details of the problem. It is not ASUS being lazy. It is a fact of Return On Investment. The motherboard is at least 7 years old and it is not economical for ASUS to continue to dedicate resources for a motherboard that has outlived it expected life.
You won't find any of the motherboard manufacturers supporting a motherboard that old and has a chipset that is no loner being produced. I seriously doubt there is a Windows 7 driver for the SiS video and it definitely will not support the features in Windows 7. Without the wireless desktop connected I get a 'keyboard missing' message With it connected the PC then hangs later in the boot procedure.
So I run with the wireless desktop connected until I get the PNP completed message; I then let it run with it disconnected until Windows comes up. I then reconnect, login, and am up and running. The a position is connected, the b disconnected. I boot in with switch in position a, allow the PC to run until I get the PNP completion message, switch to b position and run until the Windows logon screen comes up.
I then switch back to a. This works because the Bios detects the wireless desktop, Windows 7 Bootmgr has a problem with the wireless desktop in conjunction with my old Bios, the Windows 7 operating system manages fine with the wireless desktop.

Hi, I also feel that this is not a Microsoft product issue, please consult with your manufacturer for assistance.
Tuesday, January 10, AM. Gadya If you insist on running Windows 7 on an unsupported hardware platform, then you must accept the fact that everything is not going to work as you would like and you will just have to cope with the results. Obviously your situation with the wireless desktop is a situation that will not be addressed for the sake of one individual. This can be beneficial to other community members reading the thread. Thursday, January 12, PM. You write: " you must accept the fact that everything is not going to work as you would like" I do accept that but I'm still looking for a way round the problem.
Gadya Several years ago there were many, many systems that would not boot properly with any USB device connected.
